In the festively decorated and decorated Municipal Museum, Jan Erik Bohling, Head of Cultural Affairs, conveyed the greetings of Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel and his thanks to the Ortsheimatpfleger for their commitment. He also thanked the team at the city archive for their work in preserving local history and organizing and implementing projects and events.
Jan Erik Bohling acknowledged the importance of the voluntary work of the local heritage keepers for the city of Salzgitter with a quote from the first German President Theodor Heuss: "Only those who know where they come from know where they are going." He gave a brief outlook on the future of Salzgitter and the huge upheavals that are currently taking place, particularly in the economy. The Head of Cultural Affairs emphasized how important the voluntary work of the Ortsheimatpfleger is: researching historical topics, communicating the town's history and documenting the present for future generations.
Special thanks and a small gift were given to Heinrich Hagemann from Engelstedt and Bernhard Schroeter from Watenstedt, who have both been volunteering as local historians for their district since 1993 and have therefore been doing so for 30 years.
This brings the total number of local heritage officers who have held this honorary position for at least 30 years to six: Hartmut Alder (Thiede, since 1987), Norbert Zachries (Lesse, since 1987), Sigrid Lux (Heerte, since 1988), Horst Helms (Beddingen, since 1991).
The Ortsheimatpfleger took the opportunity to visit the traveling exhibition "What does minority mean here?" at the Salder Castle Municipal Museum before the meeting ended with coffee and pastries and personal discussions.
