The Lord Mayor is a great supporter of this project: "I think FLEXO is a good service that sensibly complements our KVG Braunschweig and DB Regio ÖPNV and, in particular, enables our older citizens as well as our students and professors at Ostfalia University to be mobile and actively participate in the social life of our city of Salzgitter."

The FLEXO project was introduced by the city of Salzgitter in January 2022 at the instigation of the Greater Braunschweig Regional Association. To date, the city of Salzgitter and the Greater Braunschweig Regional Association have shared the costs incurred, initially 75% : 25%, then 50% : 50%. The Mayor finds it unacceptable for the Braunschweig Regional Association to pull out of this sensible joint project on January 1, 2027: "The Braunschweig Regional Association cannot create a need through start-up funding and then shirk its responsibility. I expect the Braunschweig Regional Association to ensure 50% co-financing for all participating cities and districts beyond 2026. I am convinced that the Braunschweig Regional Association, as the responsible body for ÖPNV, must also have a great interest in ensuring that the FLEXO project continues beyond 2026 in its interested member municipalities. I will therefore call on the Braunschweig Regional Association to continue to provide long-term financial security for the FLEXO project as a joint project. I will include the required municipal share of 50% of the total costs in the draft of the 2027/2028 municipal double budget."

The resolution is to be passed by the Salzgitter City Council on September 30.
