Procedures for amending the land use plan are required if a deviation from the original representations of the effective land use plan is planned in parts of the urban area when planning new projects. This is the case if, for example, the previous representation no longer provides a basis for binding urban land-use planning due to changes in the general conditions, requirements or local political decision-making. The amendments enable more flexible handling of the land use plan, which is effective over longer periods of time.

The effective land use plan of the City of Salzgitter was approved in 1979; it was re-published in 1994.

The adaptation to changed framework conditions and to the future development goals of the City of Salzgitter justify a revision of the land use plan.
