Section 2 (1) of the Federal Hunting Act lists the animal species that are subject to hunting rights. The animals listed there may be hunted in principle, but only if hunting seasons have been set. If no hunting seasons have been set, these animals must be spared from hunting all year round.
Under state law, other animal species are also subject to hunting rights (Section 5 of the Lower Saxony Hunting Act). According to the new version of the Ordinance on the Implementation of the Lower Saxony Hunting Act, Egyptian geese, wood pigeons, greylag geese and Canada geese have been included in the catalog of huntable species for the first time.
