If you need help with living expenses and do not have statutory or private health insurance, medical care will be provided by the social welfare agency.

The social welfare agency will check whether you are entitled to receive benefits. You are entitled to preventative healthcare assistance. This includes

• preventive medical services
• examinations for the prevention and early detection of illnesses
• medical treatment to prevent illness or damage to health

Some people do not have health insurance.
Social welfare offices (Sozial-Hilfe-Träger) help these people.
The social welfare organizations check:

And the social assistance providers offer help.
For example

• preventive medical services
• Examinations to prevent illness
• Examinations for the early detection of diseases.
• Are you having a baby?
  Or have you had a baby?
  And you are receiving social assistance or basic social security?
  Then the social welfare office will pay for the consultations for you.

Do you need a treatment certificate?
Then you need to make an application.
The application is informal.
In other words:
You can simply write the application.

You must submit various documents with the application.
For example

• a current notification of social assistance
• Your identity card
• prescriptions
• invoices
• Consultation confirmations
• Cost estimates
• Rejection notices

Social assistance will tell you exactly what you need:

The following documents are required:

• Informal application/application for the issue of a treatment certificate/assurance that costs will be covered
• Current notification of benefits to secure your livelihood (SGB II, SGB XII or AsylBLG)
• Identity card or passport
• Any prescriptions and/or, if applicable, payment receipts, necessary consultation confirmations, cost estimates, any rejection notices, etc.

The responsible social welfare agency will provide information on the documents required in individual cases.
