Death abroad Notarization of Germans without domestic residence

If a German or a German national without a permanent residence in Germany dies abroad, you can have the death subsequently certified at the competent German registry office.

Description

Description

A death that occurred abroad can also be notarized, i.e. registered, in a German death register at your request. The so-called subsequent notarization also applies to Germans who died abroad and were not resident in Germany.

With subsequent notarization, an entry is made in a German death register in addition to the notarization abroad, i.e. in addition to the entry in the death register of the country in which the death occurred.

Under certain conditions, you can apply for subsequent certification at the competent German registry office.
