The Advisory Board for People with Disabilities is a mandatory statutory body in accordance with Section 12a of the Lower Saxony Disability Equality Act (NBGG).
It is appointed for a period of 5 years and ends with the term of office of the Salzgitter City Council on 31.10.2026. The Advisory Board meets once a quarter in a public meeting.
One member each participates in the Committee for Social Affairs, Integration and Health, the Urban Planning and Building Committee and the Cultural Advisory Board.
The Advisory Board for People with Disabilities consists of
- eight members,
- three advisory members and
- eight substitute members.
One member is involved in each of the following committees:
- the Committee for Social Affairs, Integration and Health,
- the Urban Planning and Building Committee and
- the Cultural Advisory Board.
Appointments are made by the Salzgitter City Council for a period of five years.
The Advisory Board for People with Disabilities was formed for the first time in 2011. The term of office ended on 30.10.2016 at the end of the 16th electoral term of the Salzgitter City Council. The second advisory board for people with disabilities was in office until October 31, 2021, in line with the 17th term of office of the Salzgitter City Council. The advisory board was reconstituted on February 17, 2022.

The advisory board has the task of advising the city of Salzgitter on all issues that affect people with disabilities in Salzgitter in general by making suggestions, inquiries, recommendations and statements. The advisory board's motto is:

Not about us without us"
