The lecture
Thanks to Goethe's translation, the Italian goldsmith and sculptor Benvenuto Cellini's (1500-1571) own biography has attracted a great deal of attention and been widely disseminated.
In it, he describes his life and work as inextricably interwoven and thus becomes a contemporary witness to one of the most vital epochs of modern art.
At the center of the lecture is Cellini's spectacular life story, which not only fascinated Goethe, but is still an exemplary testimony to the autonomous existence of an artist today.

Andreas Beyer has taught at various universities in Germany and abroad. In 2021, he was elected a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry.
