At its meeting on Wednesday, December 10, the Salzgitter City Council unanimously approved the resolution proposed by Mayor Frank Klingebiel to keep the SZ-Tafel in its "old" location!

The food bank has been housed in a private hall on Söhlekamp for many years and will remain there!

This is the result of numerous discussions led by Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel with the owners of the building, representatives of the Salzgitter-Tafel e.V., the administration and the management of the Konrad-Fonds.

And this is the solution:

The rental conditions and the municipal subsidy are to be increased appropriately and moderately from January 1, 2026 and the urgently needed renovations to the rental property will be co-financed on a pro rata basis by subsidies from the Konradfonds for a long-term lease of 20 years. The Konradfonds Board of Trustees has already approved funding for the renovation of the electrical and heating systems. The electrical work is almost complete. All those involved were able to see this for themselves when the grant agreement was signed.

"The SZ board can now remain at the site permanently! The uncertainty about its continued existence is over - great news for the people who are involved in the Salzgitter food bank, but also very good news for the people who have to make use of the food bank's services. I would like to thank everyone who worked so cooperatively on the solution! I would especially like to thank the parliamentary groups for their support!"

A very important part of the social infrastructure in our city has thus been secured for the long term.
