A comprehensive traffic analysis was the basis for the various concepts for the different types of traffic. The focus was on motor vehicle traffic, local public transport (ÖPNV), cyclists and pedestrians, as well as traffic noise and routing.

The engineering firm Schubert from Hanover analyzed and evaluated the suburban conditions and extrapolated their development for the year 2030. A steering group made up of politicians, administrators and stakeholders as well as citizens in 15 public participation rounds actively shaped this process.

The strategic goals of child- and family-friendly, economically beneficial and environmentally friendly mobility are intended to change the distribution of transport volumes across different modes of transport (modal split) in favour of the environmental alliance (urban and environmentally friendly modes of transport that, in combination with each other, enable Salzgitter residents to be mobile without a car) and to optimize the handling of motor vehicle traffic.

The results of the study show that a combination of different measures can lead to an overall traffic situation that is compatible with the city. To this end, measures in the road and ÖPNV network as well as in the pedestrian and cycle path network are recommended.

The "Cycling concept for the city of Salzgitter", which has already been adopted by the council, is available for cycling. The implementation of the proposed investment measures requires separate project resolutions and the provision of the budgetary requirements.
