The Equal Opportunities Officer
The Equal Opportunities Department promotes, advises, informs and supports the Council, the administration and the public on all issues relating to equal rights for women and men.
The Equal Opportunities Officer, who has a special position under constitutional law, works to ensure that the implementation of the constitutional mandate to realize equal rights (Article 3 (2) of the Basic Law) is observed in all plans, measures and decisions of the city so that women and girls have the same opportunities and rights in all life situations and structural inequalities between men and women are eliminated.
The aim of the work is to give space and recognition to the different perspectives, realities of life and horizons of experience of women and men within and outside the administration (gender mainstreaming). The Equal Opportunities Officer suggests measures to improve structural deficits. She works together with women's and girls' organizations as well as other cooperation partners and supports initiatives that strive for and promote equal rights for women and men. Through public relations work, the Equal Opportunities Officer provides information on equality policy issues and emphasizes the demands of women and men with regard to equality policy.
