Birth certificate issue

Description

Description

A birth certificate is a letter.
The letter says:
The person is born.

Parents must say:
The child is born.
Then the child is written in a book.
The book is called: Birth register.
The registry office does this.

Every birth in Germany is recorded in the birth register.
It contains information about the person.

You will then receive this information on a birth certificate.
If you need this.
You have to make an application for this.
The office will issue the certificate.

The information in the personal status register is private.
Only certain people and offices are allowed to see the information.

Do you want a birth certificate?
Then you must be at least 16 years old.
These persons can obtain a birth certificate:

  • Spouse
  • Life partner
  • parents
  • Grandparents
  • children
  • Grandchildren
  • Siblings

Other people need a reason for the birth certificate.
And they must be able to show this.

The birth of every child born in Germany must be recorded in the register of births. After this registration, you can also apply for a birth certificate to be issued. This proves the birth of the person and contains details of the place and time of birth as well as the first name and surname. As a rule, it also contains details of the person's gender and parents.

You will need a birth certificate in various contexts in the course of your life. It can also be issued on a multilingual form for use abroad. You can use it in many countries without a translation.

You can have an (international) birth certificate issued at the registry office that recorded your birth. In federal states where there is a central register network, you can also obtain the birth certificate from any other registry office in the register network there.
