Volunteers can do very different things:

  • Shop for other people.
  • Reading aloud in old people's homes.
  • Or serving coffee.
  • Practicing arithmetic with children.
    Or play.
  • Walking dogs.
  • Helping at festivals.

People with disabilities can also become volunteers.
For example:

  • People with learning difficulties
  • People with mental illnesses
  • People in wheelchairs

All these people deserve special recognition.

The Niedersächsische Ehren-Amts-Karte is an award.
That means:
You get the card for voluntary work.

The Niedersächsische Ehren-Amts-Karte gives you discounts.

You have to pay less money.

  • sport
  • culture
  • leisure

Who can get a card?

  • Do you do your voluntary work in Lower Saxony?
    Or you live here in Lower Saxony?
  • Have you been working for the common good for 2 years?
    And you work at least 5 hours a week?
    Or you work 250 hours a year?
  • Or you have been working in a youth leadership position for at least 1 year?
    (difficult word: Ju-lei-ca is a certificate in youth work).

Then you can get an honorary office card.

These volunteers receive the card immediately:

  • Voluntary fire brigade with training
  • Disaster protection with training
  • Rescue service with training

The City of Salzgitter has commissioned the Volunteer Center (FZS) to carry out the application, checking and issuing of the Ehrenamtskarte. The applicant can download the application form at

- the FZS will provide all the necessary information.

The completed application form must be confirmed by the organization for which the applicant is volunteering and then forwarded to the FZS.
