In Lower Saxony, many people work voluntarily for the common good.
They want to help society free of charge.
This is called honorary office (difficult word: voluntary commitment).

Or you can say volunteers.
Volunteers help other people .
In their free time.
They don't get paid for it.

Volunteers can do very different things:

• Reading aloud in old people's homes.
• Or serving coffee.
• Practicing arithmetic with children.
  Or play.
• Walking dogs.
• Helping at festivals.

People with disabilities can also become volunteers.
For example:

• People with learning difficulties
• People with mental illnesses
• People in wheelchairs

All these people deserve special recognition.
Recognition here means:
People should receive a thank you.

That's why we have the Lower Saxony Honorary Officials Card.
The Niedersächsische Ehren-Amts-Karte is an award.
That means:
You get the card for voluntary work.

The Niedersächsische Ehren-Amts-Karte gives you discounts.
Benefits here means:
You have to pay less money.
For example in:

• public institutions
• companies
• sport
• culture
• leisure

Who can get a card?

• Do you do your voluntary work in Lower Saxony?
  Or you live here in Lower Saxony?
• Have you been working for the common good for 2 years?
  And you work at least 5 hours a week?
  Or you work 250 hours a year?
• Or you have been working in a youth leadership position for at least 1 year?
  (difficult word: Ju-lei-ca is a certificate in youth work).

Then you can get an honorary office card.

These volunteers receive the card immediately:

• Voluntary fire brigade with training
• Disaster protection with training
• Rescue service with training

In Lower Saxony, 3.2 million people work voluntarily for the common good. They make an important contribution to cohesion in our society and contribute to a Lower Saxony worth living in. All active citizens deserve thanks for this commitment. It is priceless and deserves public recognition.

The Lower Saxony Ehrenamtskarte is an attractive award to recognize outstanding commitment. It gives something back to those who are particularly committed to helping others, enriching our lives together and promoting solidarity in our society.

With the Ehrenamtskarte, you can enjoy discounts at public institutions and numerous providers. Whether sport, culture or leisure - the areas in which you can use the card are diverse.

The City of Salzgitter has commissioned the Volunteer Center (FZS) to carry out the application, checking and issuing of the Ehrenamtskarte. The applicant can download the application form at

- the FZS will provide all the necessary information.

The completed application form must be confirmed by the organization for which the applicant is volunteering and then forwarded to the FZS.
