News: Time restriction for water withdrawal and irrigation from May 1 to September 30, 2026
The Lower Water Authority of the City of Salzgitter draws attention to the general decree on the time restriction for water withdrawal, which applies from May 1 to September 30, 2026:
The withdrawal of water from surface waters in the city area is prohibited during this period daily from 10 am to 6 pm at a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and above.
The prohibition applies from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius for
- Water abstraction from wells,
- water abstraction from surface waters and for
- water withdrawals for which a valid permit under water law exists.
For the sprinkling and irrigation of:
- Agricultural and forestry areas
- public and private green spaces such as parks and gardens
- and sports facilities such as soccer pitches and golf courses
The time restriction is intended to prevent water abstraction from causing a deterioration in water quality in water bodies and thus ensure that water is used sparingly.

The lower water authority approves the use of bodies of water as well as the construction and significant modification of structures on and in surface waters. It is also responsible for monitoring facilities for handling substances hazardous to water and for issuing permits for the indirect discharge of wastewater into the public wastewater system (sewer system).
