Salzgitter

Further public dialog in Salder

As announced, the city of Salzgitter, together with invited representatives of the council parties, is continuing the dialog with citizens on the traffic situation in Salder.

City map view of Salder

On Thursday, June 2, from 6 p.m. in the Gala-Hof in Salder, on Dammstraße, after a general introduction by the administration, the results of the current traffic count in and around Salder will be presented by Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Müller from the engineering office Schubert.

  • traffic control measures (e.g. 30 km/h speed limit, ban on HGVs driving through etc.)
  • Expansion of cycle and footpath connections and other construction measures such as the expansion of Museumsstraße with the expansion of the Mindener Straße junction
  • Bypass road, cost-benefit analysis, feasibility study and comparison of zero variants (actual state compared to the state after construction of the bypass road)

The proposed measures were discussed and evaluated.

What has happened so far:

As promised, the city has requested approval from the higher traffic authority for a continuous 30 km/h zone and an initially temporary ban on trucks driving through Museumstrasse. The reply from the state Ministry of Transport for the intended traffic regulations has not yet been received. The traffic impact of these traffic management measures or their prohibition will be another topic of the evening.

The project for a bypass for Museumsstraße will also be discussed further in principle. At the citizens' dialog on 13 April, it became clear that implementation and financing by the responsible state is not to be expected and that the city of Salzgitter is also unable to finance the high construction costs. A feasibility study with a zero variant comparison (actual state compared to the state after construction of the bypass) would have to show whether such a bypass would even stand up to a cost-benefit analysis, regardless of the financing, although this is cost-intensive and would require a mandate from the city council.
