Once completed, the service station will meet the requirements of a classic station building, for example with a waiting and welcome area, ticket sales, public WC facilities, bicycle parking and weather protection.
KVG is prepared to take over ticket sales in the service center for both network tickets and DB tickets. It would offer significantly better opening hours compared to the current situation (in the container at the station).
The main structure of the planned building project is a self-supporting roof, under which the three functions of bicycle parking, ticket sales and WC facilities are freely positioned. The roof structure measures (L x W x H) 36 x 10 x 4.50 meters and rests on a row of supports (four supports in the central longitudinal axis).
As an independent structure under the self-supporting roof with a barrier-free design and a total area of 39 square meters, the ticket sales area contains a vestibule, the service office, a kitchenette, a staff WC and a technical room.
The bicycle parking facility offers around 55 square meters of weather-protected space for 30 bicycles in a closed enclosure. These spaces are intended for rental. There are also 16 additional freely usable bicycle parking spaces under the self-supporting roof structure. Two of these will serve as charging stations for electric bikes.
However, many council members were of the opinion that the construction of the service station was actually the responsibility of Deutsche Bahn and that funding should be provided by the Zweckverband Großraum Braunschweig (ZGB).
