New in the Eiszeitgarten at Salder Castle: New listening station

The Förderkreis Schloss Salder has purchased an audio station for the Eiszeitgarten. Anyone who wants to find out more about the animals and life in this age when visiting the Eiszeitgarten in the Salder Castle Municipal Museum can now get interesting information via a so-called "chirping box".

And this is how you operate this listening station: guests generate the necessary power themselves by turning the crank on the side. When the lamp lights up green after a short time, one of four audio tracks with the desired information can be started by pressing a button. Not visible from the outside: The audio files with the information are played via an MP3 player. The advantage over similar devices: The so-called "Zwitscherkiste" is weatherproof and sustainable.

This gives the Eiszeitgarten a new attraction just in time for the upcoming start of the season at the museum festival on May 9 and 10.

The equipment, which costs almost 2,200 euros, was financed by the Förderkreis Schloss Salder from donations made by museum visitors. The museum team was responsible for the technical implementation, including the installation at the site, the graphic design and the conception and recording of the audio tracks.

Jan Erik Bohling, Head of the Department of Economic Affairs, Culture and Digital Affairs, inaugurated the "Zwitscherkiste" on behalf of the city. He thanked Marcus Porschke (1st Chairman), Inge Pelzer (Managing Director) and Siegfried Pelzer (Treasurer), members of the Board of the Friends of the Museum, for the purchase. After a successful test, all those present agreed that this box would further enhance the Eiszeitgarten.

Jan Erik Bohling is particularly pleased that the Eiszeitgarten will also become a little less accessible, although there is still a lot to be done in this respect, as Head of Cultural Services Hartmut Schölch and Museum Director Arne Homann confirmed. Whether devices will also be installed at other locations in the museum depends on whether the pilot project in the Eiszeitgarten proves technically successful and how the feedback from guests turns out.

The Eiszeitgarten will open this year from April 9. It is always accessible during the museum's opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. Please note: The museum is closed on May 1st and a few other public holidays.
