The Story
Cartographer 1 and Cartographer 2 from Planet Number 6 are very stressed. They have to map the entire universe, and that takes time. And now they’ve run into a surprised audience. To better figure out who they’ve encountered here, they conduct a test they learned from a strange visitor to their planet. They can’t get him out of their heads, because he called himself simply “The Little Prince.” And he had had a falling out with his rose. Ever since, he’s been traveling through space in search of a true friend.
He lands on strange little planets with even stranger inhabitants, all of whom are very busy—mostly with themselves. And the Little Prince finds no one anywhere. Cartographer 1 and Cartographer 2 finally advise him to try his luck on the planet called Earth. And so, in the end, the Little Prince finds himself in that desert we know from the famous story. He meets the female pilot who is trying to repair her plane. He meets the fox, who teaches him how to tame him. He receives the useless muzzle for his sheep. And by the end of his journey, he has touched many hearts.
Thorsten Bihegue has adapted the oft-adapted story into a nimble version. Without denying or losing the poetry of the original, the author creates the necessary distance from kitsch through a performative dimension.
