At the first meeting of the new Steterburg Social City working group, one of the items on the agenda was the realignment of the neighborhood management.

Other topics included the updating of the integrated action plan, the plans for the Danziger Straße playground, the Danziger Straße road construction project, the demolition of the "Brotweg" municipal building and the "Elderly-friendly housing" project.
The new working group consists of representatives of the council and the local council and, together with the district management, defines the goals for Steterburg.
The pilot project "Elderly-friendly living" is an initiative of five senior citizens who want to "live actively together" and are looking for further supporters. "It is an initiative from the neighbourhood, which we are very pleased about," emphasizes city councillor Michael Tacke. Talks are already underway with the Van der Horst housing company because the senior citizens are looking for a barrier-free building.
One component of the integrated action plan is a district budget that can be used directly in the district for various projects and is a supplementary instrument of urban development funding.
A district newspaper is planned for the first quarter of 2018, which will be produced by the district management. It will report on activities in Steterburg at regular intervals.
From January, the neighborhood management will no longer be active in its current form. The Steterburg Neighborhood Management will cease its activities at the end of the year. The "Socially Integrative City" urban development project will continue. The office in Steterburg will remain staffed. The local work is to continue in a new cooperation.

The office partnership between the Berlin office raumscript and the Braunschweig office hpu has made use of its option to terminate the contract with the city of Salzgitter at the end of the year.
"After careful consideration, the managers of the two commissioned offices, raumscript (Marco Mehlin) and hpu (Holger Pump-Uhlmann), have decided to terminate the contract with the city due to differences of opinion regarding the content, orientation and structures of the work and to make room for a new development."
Those responsible in the administration regret the decision, but also see new opportunities for the development of Steterburg. In a new constellation, there is now the opportunity to continue the work and reposition itself in the process. In its first year of operation, the district management team has launched many projects, initiated activities and set priorities:
Networking - establishing contacts in the neighborhood; 2. public relations measures and networking of neighborhood stakeholders (for example, various information events and activities such as Urban Development Day, Steterburg blossoms; 3. the on-site office is a contact and mediation point for residents; 4. activation and participation of residents; 5. mediation between the neighborhood and the administration.
These initial successes should now be built upon. The city of Salzgitter is planning a reorientation in Steterburg with greater involvement of citizens and stronger networking with local stakeholders. The contact person in the Steterburg office will probably remain the district manager/urban planner Maxie Simgen. The city of Salzgitter will coordinate this with Ms. Simgen. On this basis, a reorientation is planned with greater involvement of the citizens; the establishment of a redevelopment advisory board and the provision of a district budget for various activities in Steterburg. This will give everyone involved more responsibility for their neighborhood. "The social city of Steterburg thrives on participation. We want more participation from local stakeholders," says Michael Tacke.
Local cooperation should be expanded. This applies to the various measures with the Van der Horst company, but also to the working groups with the various initiatives in Steterburg. As before, the Urban Redevelopment and Socially Integrative City department is the point of contact in the administration for owner applications and questions about funding. "We have already initiated a number of measures in the past year," says Michael Tacke. These include the plans for the Danziger Straße playground, the plans for Ahornpark, the upgrading of the play areas in the inner areas of the block and the "Am Brotweg" football pitch. The urban development measures and the individual redevelopment and beautification projects will continue. The private measures will also continue as previously agreed. The local presence is guaranteed, as is the previous exchange with the Department for Urban Redevelopment and Socially Integrative City in the town hall.
The office in Steterburg is still open to the public. Up-to-date information is available on the website www.steterburg.net. In addition to the existing office hours, consultation hours are planned for owners on all aspects of modernization and maintenance.
