Salzgitter

Social ticket introduced

The social ticket - also known as a mobility ticket - for the use of ÖPNV has been available for the Salzgitter city area since January 1, 2019.

It is a pilot project that will initially run for two years, with the option to continue on a permanent basis if successful.

The social ticket can be purchased by citizens whose primary residence is in the city area and who receive income-dependent benefits that secure their livelihood, such as assistance towards living expenses or basic income support in old age and in the event of reduced earning capacity in accordance with SGB XII, basic income support or social benefit in accordance with SGB II, benefits in accordance with the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act and transfer benefits in accordance with SGB VIII.

A corresponding eligibility card is required to purchase the Sozialticket.

The entitlement cards for recipients of benefits under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act and SGB XII, such as basic income support in old age or due to incapacity to work and assistance with living expenses, will be sent out by the city of Salzgitter at short notice. Anyone who has not received an entitlement card by Monday, January 7, 2019, can obtain one from their responsible clerk in the Social Affairs and Senior Citizens Department of the Salzgitter city administration.

For recipients of benefits under SGB II from the Salzgitter Jobcenter, the entitlement cards will be sent out from the 2nd calendar week of 2019. Anyone who has not received an entitlement card by Tuesday, January 15, 2019, will receive it in the designated rooms on the 4th floor of the town hall in Lebenstedt. Further information can be obtained by calling the City of Salzgitter on 05341 / 839-4030.

The ticket is available for adults (from the age of 14) for 25 euros/month and for children (from six to 14 years) for 15 euros/month. It is issued for one month and is valid from the first day to the last day of each month on all means of transport in the city of Salzgitter (tariff zone 60). It can be used for journeys on KVG and Regionalbus Braunschweig (RBB) buses and DB Regio AG trains in this area.

The ticket for adults is valid Monday to Sunday from 8.30 a.m. until closing time.
In exceptional cases, the validity restriction of 8.30 a.m. can be lifted to avoid hardship.
Proof of hardship, such as an employment contract, must be submitted. There is no legal entitlement to an exemption.

The exception to the time limit can be requested from the responsible benefits officer at the Social Services Department of the City of Salzgitter. Recipients of benefits according to SGB II through the Salzgitter Jobcenter can apply for the exception in the designated rooms of the housing benefit office on the 4th floor of the town hall in Lebenstedt.

The ticket for children is valid all day.

The social ticket is only available at the mobility center of Kraftverkehrsgesellschaft Braunschweig, at Fischzug 1-2, in the Citytorcenter in Lebenstedt (still open in January 2019) and additionally from 2 January 2019, from 2 pm, at the new KVG mobility center at the train station in Lebenstedt, Konrad-Adenauer-Straße 8. It is not available from the staff on the buses or from Regionalbus Braunschweig GmbH or Deutsche Bahn.

When purchasing the ticket, your own name must be entered on the social ticket in the presence of a KVG employee. The ticket is non-transferable and does not have a carry-on provision. For journeys to neighboring tariff zones in Salzgitter, the holder can also purchase an extension ticket from the bus driver. This costs 2.50 euros per journey. The fare regulations and special conditions of carriage of the Braunschweig region transport association apply here.

In order to check how successful the pilot project is, the KVG will survey users when they purchase a social ticket for the first time. The regional association will evaluate the responses as part of the pilot project. In addition to the sales figures, the results of the survey will determine whether the ticket will be continued after the two-year pilot period.
