Department of Public Safety and Trade

  • Public Safety and Security
  • Commercial matters
  • Combating illegal employment

Legal department

In its Legal Department, the Security, Law and Order Service advises the administrative management and all organizational units of the city administration on legal issues. In addition, representation is also provided to courts, bailiffs and other external parties as required.

Unfortunately, legal advice and representation of other persons - in particular residents of the city - cannot be provided. These persons primarily receive such advice from established lawyers, who may also represent them in court. In cases of need, there is the possibility of obtaining legal aid from the local court or, in the case of legal proceedings, legal aid from the competent court.

The department also handles the insurance policies held by the city with insurance companies and institutions (e.g. liability, building, motor vehicle and own damage insurance).

All liability claims made against the city are also processed in this context. If someone has suffered damage as a result of the conduct of municipal staff - e.g. in a traffic accident - this damage can be reported to the Legal Department. In doing so, it is necessary to describe the course of the damage as precisely as possible, stating the place, time and actual course of events and also the extent of the damage. The name and contact details of the injured party must always be given.

Finally, the Legal Department is also responsible for the supervision of the registry office. This involves monitoring the activities of the municipal registry office and subjecting them to regular audits.

"Salzgitter - safe and clean" team

An extended concept with numerous measures has been drawn up to sustainably strengthen urban cleanliness and safety.

The concept, which is being implemented in close cooperation with the Salzgitter / Peine / Wolfenbüttel police department, focuses on raising citizens' awareness of the issues of safety and cleanliness as part of a planned advertising campaign. Everyone can play a part in everyday things such as respectful coexistence, waste separation and waste disposal.

In addition to this preventative measure, the aim of "Salzgitter - safe and clean 2.0" is to increase the visibility of municipal and police law enforcement officers in public and, in particular, in places where there has been an increase in violations in the past.
In future, any violations of municipal statutes or laws that are detected will be punished consistently and, in the case of administrative offenses, with significantly higher fines. This applies, for example, to incorrect waste separation, illegal waste dumping or breaches of the hazard prevention ordinance.

In the area of cleanliness, the municipal management company will launch an intensified cleaning offensive. To this end, two additional cleaning teams (North and South) will be deployed in future to remove illegal waste deposits, empty litter bins and clean city centers. More advisory services will also be offered in future.

The concept lists numerous other measures that are to be implemented gradually. To this end, reorganizations have already been carried out within the city administration in order to create synergy effects between operational planning, increased controls, the bundling of incoming reports and the subsequent fine and legal proceedings.
